Construction work will begin this spring to renovate Vana-Kalamaja street. The redevelopment along the entire 1.1km length of the street will see it redesigned with a focus towards pedestrians and cyclists.
The Tallinn city government confirmed on Monday that proposed plans to redevelop Vana-Kalamaja from Nunne street on the edge of the old town to Kalaranna will commence this spring. This redeveloped street will better connect the Kalamaja district to the old town and Baltijaam station.
Along with a 1.1km long road redeveloped with a focus to pedestrians and cyclists, a number of squares and public areas will be created.
At the northern end of the street, an open square will be created at Baltijaam station. This redevelopment will also see new roofs provided in the bus station.
Further along the street, a Kalamaja square and community building will be built. At the end of the street, where it intersects with Kalaranna street a 3 m high viewing platform will be created.
Construction on Vana-Kalamaja street is expected to be finished by the end of 2022. However, the redevelopments in the area around Baltijaam are not expected to be done until next year.
