The airline Nyxair is set to start direct flights from Helsinki to the renovated Pärnu Airport from May 2022. The flights will run twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.
“The wish came from the entrepreneurs of Pärnu. Because we operate in Finland, we were able to offer a workable solution,” said Jaanus Ojamets, CEO of Nyxair, in an interview with the Estonian broadcaster ERR.
Ojamets said a formal agreement has not yet been signed. However, it has been tentatively agreed that Nyxair will start a flight connection between Helsinki and Pärnu at the beginning of May. There are flights twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. The price of a one-way ticket will be around 60 euros.
According to Ojamets, the creation of a route between Pärnu and Stockholm is also not ruled out. “We are also interested in operating this route if there is enough interest in it. However, we have now decided to start operating between Helsinki and Pärnu,” Ojamets emphasized.
Pärnu Airport is being further developed
Margot Holts, a spokeswoman for Tallinn Airport, said that the construction of the passenger area at Pärnu Airport was completed as planned by the end of last year. Signs and furniture are currently being designed, procured and installed. “We hope to have all the facilities fully completed during February,” Holts said.
Pärnu Airport is one of the airports operated by Tallinn Airport. According to Holts, the renovation of the airport cost 18.5 million euros. Holts added that Pärnu Airport will also have an aircraft hangar where maintenance of Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 aircraft can take place.
