Modern Russian

Modern Russian

Traditional cuisine in a contemporary setting.

Masha restaurant is maybe one of the best-kept secrets for Russian food in Tallinn. They have all of the favourites like borscht, blinis, dumplings, zakushkas, stroganoff, and chicken Kiev.

The restaurant is decorated with a modern, yet cosy style and wooden furniture made especially for the restaurant. Here, you will understand the true meaning of Russian hospitality, with large portions, friendly service, and great drinks list, with of course, a great selection of vodka.

I decided to try the blinis to start. A large blini, or fluffy pancake came served in a cast iron pan, with a plate of toppings on the side. I went for the blini with red caviar, sour cream and onions, but it can also come with smoked fish or mushrooms. For the main course I had the chicken Kiev, which did not disappoint with its rich herbed butter that came pouring out with the first cut. And for dessert, as if there was any room for it, I just had to try the quark pancakes, a personal favourite of mine. These are blinis made with curd cheese and served with jam.

Come with an empty stomach for a truly great meal with great Russian hospitality.
