XIX Tallinn Guitar Festival

The XIX Tallinn Guitar Festival is happening from 9–14 June in Tallinn and its immediate vicinity. There will be a series of concerts featuring guitars, with several musical styles. A master class will also be offered, and the festival concludes with a concert featuring younger guitarists.

The first concert will feature Borbála Seres of Hungary, on 9 June at 18:00 in Kadriorg Palace. Seres graduated with honours from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 2011. Fun fact: every competition Seres has participated in, she has finished in the top three. Her repertoire for the evening will include classical music. Her performances have been described as warm-hearted and dreamy, taking the audience into her world.

The second and third concerts will feature the Diknu Schneeberger Trio from Austria, on 10 and 11 June in the Kumu Auditorium and Keila Cultural Centre, respectively. Both concerts begin at 19:00. The trio are composed of Diknu Schneeberger, Julian Wohlmuth, and Martin Heinzle. Their music is described as “Gipsy jazz”.

“Le soleil et la lune”, or “The Sun and the Moon”, will be on 12 June at the Tallinn TV Tower, beginning at 21:00. Estonians Helin-Mari Arder on vocals and Mart Soo on guitar will perform original works, as well as covers, bossa nova, jazz, and chansons.

Claudio Farinone of Italy will perform on 13 June at the Kai Art Centre. His concert, titled “Preludes of the Sea”, will feature Mediterranean music from Italy and Spain. For over 20 years, Farinone has been a presenter for a Swiss radio station, featuring the greats of contemporary music.

“Guitar Icons” will feature Sérgio and Odair Assad from Brazil on 14 June in the House of the Blackheads in Tallinn’s Old Town. The two brothers have been called “the best two-guitar team in existence” by the Washington Times. They have enjoyed a prolific recording career, and audiences can look forward to a spectacular concert.

The full programme for the XIX Tallinn Guitar Festival can be found here, including information on the master class, and the free concert by young talents at MuBa. Tickets for all the individual concerts are also available at the same link.
