According to public transport statistics, passenger numbers for the first quarter of 2022 were almost back to pre-pandemic levels.
“We’re glad to see people’s trust in public transport recovering, with more people opting for the environmentally friendly option,” explained Mihkel Mäeker, head of the public transport department of the Transport Administration.
Occupancy of county buses was up 26 per cent on the first quarter of 2021, and only 7 per cent below 2019 figures. There was a similar story for ferry passengers to Estonia’s islands, with numbers up 31 per cent compared to 2021, and only 8 per cent below 2019 figures.
Domestic aviation saw the biggest rise, up 57 per cent compared to 2021, and 50 per cent compared to 2019.
