Tartu Folk 2025

For ten years now Tartu Folk has brought together various folklore-themed groups from around Europe. This year’s festival will take place from 13–16 November. This festival is becoming one of the most important such events on the continent, as music, dance, and art groups can share their cultures with one another, and audiences experience performances they otherwise would not be able to. Tartu Folk 2025 will offer not only concerts and performances, but music and dance workshops as well.

The four-day programme traditionally has been focused in Luunja, which is a stone’s throw from Tartu. This year’s main event however will be in Tartu’s famed Vanemuine Concert Hall. There will be a gala concert featuring groups from several countries, as well as individual cultures that do not have their own independent countries, such as the Udmurt people, represented by Jumšan Gur, or “Tartu Udmurts”, which is based in Tartu. Latvia, Lithuania, and Sweden will also be represented at the festival.

During this gala concert, each floor of the Vanemuine will hold different events, ranging from dance ensembles, to singing. The final concert of Tartu Folk 2025 will be held at the Estonian National Museum, in the area around the bridge. Film clips will be presented that introduce the various groups’ hometowns and countries, as well as culture. Tickets for the various events are sold separately here.

Several of the performances will also be available for viewing on the event’s YouTube page, and more information is available here. Even if you’re unable to make it to Tartu for X Tartu Folk, you should certainly check out the wonderful programme lined up for audiences!
