Spring Is in the Heart…of Tallinn

While most of the Northern Hemisphere is celebrating the arrival of summer, Estonia is still celebrating the arrival of spring. But good things come to those who wait, or as they say in French, “C’est la vie.” That’s life. In Estonia. And it’s so worth it! Where else can the public enjoy a free concert of French composers on a warm, spring day in the heart of the city?
On 24 May, Tallinn’s Town Hall will host a concert titled “Spring Is in the Heart”, featuring the works of classical French composers. This free concert is open to everyone to enjoy the work of Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, and Camille Saint-Saëns. Their music symbolises the arrival of the warmth of spring, the light of the long, summer days of Estonia, and the fresh sea air. But without the drama of that last sentence.
Taking the stage will be Pirjo Jonas of Tartu’s Vanemuine Theatre, a brilliant soprano soloist, and highly acclaimed pianist Kirill Lissijenko. The medieval surroundings of Tallinn’s Town Hall Square offer the perfect venue for the melodies of music to warm your heart on what is likely to be a cold, spring day in Estonia.
The concert will last for approximately one hour, so you definitely won’t want to arrive fashionably later than 18:00. Afterwards, however, the entire Old Town is yours to explore. At this time of year, if you make your way to the seaside, the sun will set over the water to the northwest—a rare treat for our visitors from the north.
More information is available in Estonian here. We hope you enjoy the “Spring Is in the Heart” concert, as well as your time in lovely Tallinn!
