New Programme Guides Viewers in Estonian History and People

The YouTube series “My Tallinn” has entertained viewers for over 30 episodes. In the series, Risto Lassila introduces Finnish audiences to Tallinn’s sights, services, food, and drink. A touch of humour and a personal angle are added to the travel stories. This approach gave rise to a new idea for a themed series that delves deeper into history.

“I suggested a collaboration with Tapio Mäkeläinen, a longtime Estonia expert, tour guide, and author. That’s how the new series ‘Traveling with Tapio’ was born.”

In “Traveling with Tapio”, Mäkeläinen takes viewers and listeners to Tallinn’s museums, churches, and monuments. Along the way, the series introduces significant figures and events from Estonian history that contributed to the country’s independence.

The series also includes guests who have a special relationship with Tallinn—through their work, life, or personal interest. Guests present their favourite spots—whether a pub, café, or bookstore. Among the featured guests are Matti Hämäläinen, Mikko Savikko, and Hannele Valkeeniemi.

So far, nine episodes have been released. They can be watched on Ristal International’s YouTube channel, and the audio version is here.

“The series is perfect for anyone interested in Tallinn’s culture, history, and people. It answers those questions many might find themselves wondering while walking the streets of Tallinn: Who is this statue of? What’s the story behind this monument?” Risto Lassila explains.
