The number of Finnish ferry passengers increased by 5.4% during the summer months.
According to the Port of Tallinn, in June and July this year, Finns made about 700,000 round trips to Estonia. That is about 5.4% more than last year.
This means an increase of approximately 35,000 travelers. The number of Finns grew the most in July, when about 320,000 Finns arrived in Estonia by ferry—an increase of 7.2% compared to last year. The port’s passenger age profile statistics show that many Finnish families with children visited Estonia in June and July.
The number of Finnish tourists in September is annually lower than in May, and this year it decreased even compared to last year.
A sluggish start to the year meant that the growth for the three quarters—January through September—compared to last year is 0.5%.
For hotels, the summer did not go as well. The number of overnight stays by Finns continued to decline during the summer months compared to the previous year. There were 6.3% fewer overnight guests, and they stayed for an even shorter time than last year. The decrease was 7%—nearly 40,000 nights. In the early part of the year, most of the nights spent by Finns were outside of the hotels registered in the Statistics Estonia database.
