Leigo Lake Music’s “Aju”: A ballet experience for the mind

Leigo Lake Music will celebrate its 25th birthday with a spectacular ballet performance entitled “Aju” today (August 10). Taking place as part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 programme, this innovative ballet-concert will delve into the mysteries of the brain, exploring its role at the centre of our thoughts and actions.

The event will feature a blend of electronic and jazz music, with performances by electronic music legend Legowelt from the Netherlands and The Horn Collective. This ensemble includes Allan Järve and Jason Hunter on trumpets, Allan Kaljaste on alto saxophone, Keio Vutt on tenor saxophone, Johannes Kiik on bass trombone, and Enri Remmelgas on tuba.

The ballet is choreographed by Teet Kask, with music composed by Timo Steiner and Sander Mölder. The libretto, crafted by neuroscientist Jaan Aru and writer Tõnu Õnnepalu, promises to be thought-provoking and evocative. Video artist Juho Lähdesmäki from Finland will contribute stunning visuals, while Ülar Mark will bring his artistic-architectural vision to the production.

Dancers for the performance include Carlos Campo Vecino from Spain, Maria Solei Järvet, Anna Roberta and Jevgeni Grib from the Estonian National Ballet, as well as Aleksandra Kantola, and the dancers from Tähtvere Dance Centre.

Known for its impressive water and fire shows, Leigo Lake Music’s latest production aims to be even more engaging and powerful. The performance will pose profound questions about the brain’s nature and its influence on human thought and action.

You can get more information about the event and tickets on the official Leigo Lake Music website.
