To mark Veterans Day, the Estonian War Museum will unveil 3 new exhibits in its military equipment hangar on Saturday, April 20. In honour of veterans, entrance to the museum will also be free for all today.
One of the new exhibits in the military equipment hangar is one of the best-known achievements of the modern Estonian defense industry, the multi-purpose unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) THeMIS, which was developed by Milrem Robotics. The vehicle is a donation from the company and will be permanently on display in the hangar.
“Although we often inform the public about our activities and sales of UGVs through the media, it is relatively difficult to see these products, which are used in 15 other countries besides Ukraine, with your own eyes. Therefore, we are happy to lift the veil of secrecy and give one of our UGVs to the war museum for those interested to see,” said Gert Hankewitz, Marketing and Communications Manager of Milrem Robotics.
The next new exhibit is the ZSU-57-2 anti-aircraft mobile cannon. It is a weapon of USSR origin belonging to the collection of the military museum, which was exhibited at the airport for the last 12 years.
The third new exhibit is the BRDM-2 reconnaissance tank of the USSR. Although the Estonian Defense Forces donated it to the war museum after it was decommissioned more than ten years ago, it has never been exhibited in the military equipment hangar before.
Of course, the so-called Narva tank T-34/85, the Russian tank T-72B3 shot to pieces by Ukrainian defenders, and the legendary German assault cannon Sturmgeschütz III Ausf can still be found in the hangar of military equipment. The other side of the hangar is filled with cannons and howitzers.
On Saturday, April 20, in honour of veterans, admission to the war museum and hangar is free for everyone. Instead of buying a ticket, visitors are encouraged to donate to support veterans. You will also find authentic Ukrainian soup in the hangar.
