Herring Festival in Lao Village
Text Susanna Poikela

Who doesn’t love herring fillets rolled in breadcrumbs and fried in butter? Today, 10 May, they and many other herring dishes are on offer in the small village of Lao off the island of Manija. The village is hosting the annual RäimeWest herring market.
Fresh herring in various forms awaits fish lovers. In addition to herring, the Munalaiu fishing port offers a variety of other delicacies and programmes. The annual RäimeWest herring festival in a fishing village near Pärnu is an excellent way to get to know the local culture. The herring market is open on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00.
The village of Lao is only half an hour’s drive from Pärnu. It takes a couple of hours to drive from Tallinn to the fishing village. Read more about the event in Estonian on the organiser’s Facebook page.
