Exciting events in Estonia this week

 

01–30.11 Taste Adventure of Ida-Viru, Across Ida-Viru

During the monthlong event, visitors can enjoy themed dinners and unique experiences at restaurants all around the country of Ida-Virumaa.

 

01–17.11 From Forest to Table, Across South Estonia

This year marks the fifth edition of “From Forest to Table,” where South Estonian restaurants present special menus with wild and local flavours. Each dish includes at least one freshly collected local ingredient from the forest.

 

02.11.2024–02.03.2025 Ryoji Ikeda’s solo exhibition, Estonian National Museum, Tartu

Ryoji Ikeda is globally recognised for integrating science, data, and art to create immersive, multi-sensory installations. This exhibition presents Ikeda’s latest explorations in genomics and human expression, where digital art intersects with scientific research. 

 

08–24.11 PÖFF Black Nights Movie Festival, Tallinn, Tartu

The Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) will screen 249 feature films and 323 short films from 81 countries. This year’s lineup includes six competitive sections and 14 special programs, with a notable 52 world premieres and 21 international premieres. Festival highlights include award-winning films from major global festivals, Oscar hopefuls, a new international documentary competition, as well as a special “Standing with Ukraine” programme.

 

12.11 Molchat Doma concert, Helitehas, Tallinn

The band, which started in Minsk in 2017, and who are now based in Los Angeles, blend post-punk, new wave, and synth-pop influences into their distinctive, dark yet danceable sound. Their international popularity skyrocketed in 2020, when their track “Sudno (Boris Ryzhy)” went viral on TikTok. Having performed at major festivals like Coachella and Primavera, Molchat Doma have gained a global following, with their 2020 album Monument reaching Billboard’s Top 200.

 

14–17.11 Tartu Folk, Tartu

Tartu Folk features concerts, dance workshops, and music masterclasses. This year, as Tartu is the European Capital of Culture, the festival will host the folk music community BUL Bodø from Norway, as part of the cultural exchange between the two cities. Other highlights include performances by Motora (Finland), Tarkšķi (Latvia), and Sörve sörmitsejad & Ammuker (Saaremaa, Estonia).

 

15.11 Ballet Royal Gala, Alexela Concert Hall, Tallinn

The Ballet Royal Gala gathers world-renowned ballet stars from top ballet theatres for a one-night-only performance. Featured dancers include Andrei Pisarev and Anastasia Korno from Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Luca Abdel-Nour and Mila Annaeva Nicolussi Caviglia from Dutch National Ballet, and many more.

 

16-17.11 Tasty Estonia, Kultuurikatel, Tallinn

The two-day festival features local food and drinks, presentations, competitions, and activities suitable for all ages. Organised by the Estonian Chefs Association and the Estonian Sommelier Association, the event focuses on promoting local ingredients and producers, as well as highlighting Estonia as a food tourism destination.

 

17.11 Ice show Harry on Ice, Alexela Concert Hall, Tallinn

The performance by Cirque du Soleil stars features acrobatics, figure skating, interactive effects, and impressive visuals, all set to original music. The production demonstrates both physical theatre and circus elements on ice.

 

18–23.11 Superorganism, Tartu

Superorganism is an international event featuring an exhibition, symposium, and storybook. The event explores the concept of the “superorganism”, to examine the dynamics of individual and collective existence. With contributions from 25 artists, including Laura Adel, Gary Markle, and Berta Tilmantaitė, the exhibition presents a variety of art forms such as photography, installations, and performances.
