Estonian Independence Day parade to affects traffic

The traditional Independence Day parade of the Estonian Defence Forces will take place at Tallinn’s Freedom Square on Monday February 24. More than 1,000 soldiers and some 47 vehicles will take part in the parade. Organising for the event will start an hour earlier.

The Republic of Estonia will celebrate its Independence Day on Monday at 12 noon. In addition to Estonian Defence Forces, the parade will also include NATO allies and their soldiers and equipment.

Tallinn’s public transport timetables will change on both the eve of Independence Day and on Independence Day itself. For example, tram lines 1, 2, 4 and 5 will not operate on Independence Day from 12-13.30. Public transport will also follow a Sunday timetable for the public holiday.

For more detailed timetables and routes, please visit Tallinn’s official webpage.

Traffic will be restricted on certain streets both during the parade rehearsals from 7 pm the evening before and during the Independence Day celebrations. Restrictions will be in the vicinity of Freedom Square, Kaarli puieste, Tõnismägi, around Kaarli Church, and on the section of Pärnu highway from Viru Square to Freedom Square in both directions and from the city centre to Liivalaia. There will also be traffic restrictions on the section of Mere Park from Viru Square to Ahtri Tanav and on Narva Mnt from Viru Square to Hobujaama.
