Can You Still Get Lunch in Tallinn for €5?
Text and photo Susanna Poikela

As prices rise, the Postimees newspaper set out to find out whether it’s still possible to get lunch for €5 in a Tallinn restaurant. The answer is yes—if you know where to go.
According to the newspaper, just a few years ago a €5 lunch was common, but nowadays daily specials usually cost over €8. Still, three places continue to offer a main course for €5 or even less: Mäeke, Kohvik Plus, and Airo Cafe. Of these, only one is located right in the city centre, while the others are in Mustamäe and near Tallinn Airport.
There’s also a lunch spot in Kalamaja offering a very affordable lunch deal at just €5.90. Boheem recently launched a budget lunch option that has become popular with locals.
Latvian restaurant chain LIDO recently conducted a survey revealing that half of Estonians would be willing to pay €5.50 for lunch and would like it to include two courses. A third of respondents said they’d be willing to pay more.
In response to the findings, LIDO has introduced a new €5.50 lunch deal. The survey was conducted in cooperation with Norstat in August 2025, and included over a thousand Estonians aged 18 to 74.
Feeling hungry yet? No surprise—at these prices, it’s easy to fill your stomach in Tallinn.
