A Popular and Cheap Café Close to Old Town

It is fair to say that cafes and restaurants in and around Tallinn’s old town have historically charged much more than their counterparts in other parts of the city. Creating a little bit of a divide between the places where tourists and locals go to eat. However, there are a few places in the old town that have great prices and food. And that even in the current uncertain times, can still be packed with diners.

The modern yet cosy Viktus Kohvik, which is located on Toompuiestee – less than 400m from both Freedom Square (Vabaduse Väljak) and the Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu), and just 100m from the Vabamu Occupation and Freedom Musuem – is one such example.

Although the café can be quiet in the mornings, it really comes to life at lunchtime, with barely a seat left to spare. This is because of a very attractive and varied lunch menu that changes daily and usually includes 4 options, all of which are under 6 euros.

The regular a la carte menu is also very reasonable with nothing on the menu costing more than 12 euros. The portions of food are quite large for the price too, and the taste is at least on par with other similar cafes. Viktus Kohvik also has a small breakfast menu along with a selection of pastries and cakes.

The only real downside to the café is the fact that it is not open at the weekends. However, the café is open from 9am – 9pm Monday to Friday, which means that they cater for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
