Prisma and Uuskasutuskeskus join forces to boost recycling

Yesterday, collection boxes were installed at Prisma’s supermarkets in Sikupilli, Tiskre and Roo in Tallinn and Annelinn in Tartu, where you can bring used items that are in good condition. These will then be sent to Uuskasutuskeskus second-hand stores around the country.

“One of the consumption trends that we have seen rapidly spreading in the last couple of years is the purchase of both food and consumer goods during the same trip to the store, and the desire of customers to combine multiple tasks within the same trip. People value saving time more and more,” said Teemu Kilpiä, country manager at Prisma Peremarket.

You can now bring clean used clothes, shoes, toys and household goods to four Prisma stores in Tallinn and Tartu, which will either be re-used or given to those in need through Uuskasutuskeskus.

“We are ready to increase the number of Prisma supermarkets participating in the recycling program in the future, if there is such a request from customers,” said Kilpiä. The first four stores have been chosen in such a way that there is currently no opportunity nearby to donate used clothing and other items to Uuskasutuskeskus.

“People are happy to give things in good condition to Uuskasutuskeskus, but they consider simplicity important. When you come to buy your groceries and other essentials, it is convenient to take with you decent items that you no longer have a use for and give them away at the same time. Together, we will prevent unnecessary garbage and give decent things a new chance,” commented Diana Paakspuu, CEO of Uuskasutuskeskus.

At all Prisma stores, it is already possible to return empty batteries, used small electronics, as well as a number of other items. The supermarket chain also has a strong focus on sustainability. “For our own brand products, responsible production and product sustainability are important. In the case of our House and Ciraf own-brand clothing and textiles, a large part of the products are made of responsibly produced cotton, and the product labels have comprehensive information about their production and properties,” added Kilpiä.
