Traffic on Toompuiestee restricted from today until the end of October

From today, Monday, September 5, traffic will be restricted from two lanes to one in both directions on Toompuiestee around the Balti jaam railway station at the Nunne tänav junction. It will also not be possible to enter Old Town by car along Nunne tänav. This is part of pedestrianisation works on Vana-Kalamaja street, linking the Kalamaja district with the old town.

Today, roadworks will begin on Toompuiestee close to the Balti jaam railway station, at the junction of Toompuiestee and Nunne tänav, in Tallinn’s Old town. These roadworks will limit traffic from its usual two lanes in each direction to just one. It will also not be possible to enter Old Town by car along Nunne tänav. Vehicles wishing to enter Old Town will need to use Suurtüki tänav.

It will still be possible to get to and from Nunne tänav by car. via Suurtüki, Lai and Suur-Kloostri. To aid in this, a stretch of Lai tanav will also be designated a no-parking area to allow for better access, especially to Gustav Adolf school on Suur-Kloostri. In addition, it will also only be possible to turn right onto Rannamäe tee when exiting from Suurtüki tänav. It will not be possible to turn left in the direction of the railway station.

According to Tallinn City Government, “The closure of the intersection of Toompuiestee and Nunne is related to the extensive reconstruction of Vana-Kalamaja street, whereby a high-quality urban space is to be created.”

The roadworks and traffic restrictions are expected to be in place until the end of October.
