Since then, Tartu has become a student&rsquo;s city, where 20,000 of the 100,000 inhabitants are students. Some of Tartu&rsquo;s most well known landmarks include the Emaj&otilde;gi River that flows through the centre of town, Toome Hill, the university&rsquo;s main building with its distinguished columns, and of course the &ldquo;kissing students&rdquo; in the Town Hall Square fountain.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\tFALL EVENTS<\/h3>\n<p>\n\t<strong>October 4-7 Oct &ndash; Early Music festival &ldquo;Orient et Occident&rdquo;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis Tartu music festival brings together the connections between Western and Oriental music cultures. T&auml;htvere<strong>&nbsp;Leisure Park (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arena.ee\">www.arena.ee<\/a>)<\/strong>&nbsp;houses concerts during the summer, but in winter there is a 1.3 kilometre ski track, as well as a skating rink set up just in front of the stage of the amphitheatre. The lit tracks are open until 23.00.&nbsp;<strong>The Tartu County Recreational Sports Centre (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tervisesport.ee\">www.tervisesport.ee<\/a><\/strong>) is located outside of Tartu near the town of Elva. Suitable for both recreational and competitive athletes, the lit ski trails stay open until 21.00. The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/L\u00e4hte ski trails (www.visittartu.com)\"><strong>L&auml;hte ski trails (www. visittartu.com)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a>are open 24 hours and are free. Enjoy four different trails of 5km, 2.5km, 2km, and 1km. The trails are lit in winter until 21.00. For a bit more of a challenge,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/Voorem\u00e4e Tervisekeskus (www.suusaliit.ee)\">Voorem&auml;e Tervisekeskus (www.suusaliit.ee)&nbsp;<\/a><\/strong>has a trail of 8.2km and 3km, with varying elevations up to 60 metres.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe trails are well marked and lit. Children will stay entertained with a tobogganing hill.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIf you prefer ice-skating, then you must visit the indoor rink inside the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/L\u00f5unakeskus (http:\/\/www.lounakeskus. com\/#liuvali)\"><strong>L&otilde;unakeskus (http:\/\/www.lounakeskus. com\/#liuvali)<\/strong><\/a>, southern Estonia&rsquo;s largest shopping centre. Open all year round, this rink is suitable for amateurs and professionals alike.
