Even the most doubtful can now be convinced that it is indeed safe. In the inner courtyard of the massive Hermann Castle guarding Narva, within thick walls under video surveillance and behind gates locked at night, a 10-space caravan park and a separate camping area will open at the beginning of May.

Previously, since summer 2022, it has already been possible to stay overnight in the fortress managed by Narva Museum in a modern two-room Courtyard Room apartment. A special feature of this accommodation, located in the castle’s northern courtyard, is that after the museum closes, guests are allowed to light a fire in the courtyard fireplace—for example for grilling—and climb the outdoor stairs to the riverside defensive wall to observe the evening and night across the border river on the eastern side.

The new caravan park, located in the recently renovated western courtyard of the medieval fortress, is compact but offers all basic services: electricity connections (6A), access to sanitary facilities (toilets and showers), drinking water refill, mixed waste disposal, and use of the museum’s Wi-Fi network, which helps avoid unintentional mobile roaming on expensive Russian operators’ networks. The courtyard is under 24/7 video surveillance, and the gate in the castle wall is locked between 22:00 and 7:00 unless an exception is agreed with staff.

The overnight price for a motorhome or caravan with towing vehicle, including two people and the listed services, is €34.
