{"id":155887,"date":"2026-02-20T04:25:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T02:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/balticguide.ee\/?p=155887"},"modified":"2026-02-19T16:34:40","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T14:34:40","slug":"serlachius-museum-art-collection-on-display-in-tallinn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/balticguide.ee\/en\/serlachius-museum-art-collection-on-display-in-tallinn\/","title":{"rendered":"Serlachius Museum Art Collection on Display in Tallinn"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Next week, on Saturday 28 February, the Kadriorg Art Museum in Tallinn will open the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/kadriorumuuseum.ekm.ee\/en\/syndmus\/symphony-of-art-and-nature-the-serlachius-collection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">exhibition<\/span><\/a><\/span> \u201cSymphony of Art and Nature: The Serlachius Collection.\u201d It will bring to audiences in Estonia, for the first time, a distinguished selection of masterpieces by Western European artists and by Finnish Golden Age painters\u2014the iconic works of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. All the pieces to be exhibited come from one of Finland\u2019s wealthiest private collections, assembled by the G\u00f6sta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation, established by the paper and forestry industry magnate <b>G\u00f6sta Serlachius<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Alongside works by Finnish classic artists such as <b>Akseli Gallen-Kallela<\/b>, <b>Helene Schjerfbeck<\/b> and <b>Albert Edelfelt<\/b>, the exhibition also showcases Finnish contemporary art, the collection and preservation of which has become one of the foundation\u2019s key missions today. It has been jointly curated by <b>Greta Koppel<\/b>, responsible for the Kadriorg Art Museum\u2019s collections, and <b>Tomi Moisio<\/b>, curator at the Serlachius Museums. Photo: Sampo Linkoneva<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left;\">G\u00f6sta Serlachius (1876\u20131942) was one of the most influential art patrons of his time. His personal contacts with artists and his collaboration with professionals helped shape the collection so that, in addition to Finnish masterpieces, it also contains sketches and studies\u2014insights into the processes behind artistic creation. As a collector, Serlachius\u2019 firm wish was that the collection should remain publicly accessible after his death, and that it should be exhibited not in Helsinki, but in M\u00e4ntt\u00e4, the family\u2019s home town located between Tampere and Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The exhibition at Kadriorg will be open until 23 August 2026 during regular museum opening hours. Special guided tours in Estonian\u2014held in the quiet evening hours when the museum is otherwise closed\u2014will take place on 12 March, 26 March, and 16 April at 18:00. These small-group tours will be led by Kadriorg Art Museum director and art historian <b>Aleksandra Murre<\/b>.
