Sukhishvili, the Georgian National Ballet, is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a world tour, including this performance in Tallinn. Founded in 1945 by Iliko<\/b> and Nino Sukhishvili<\/b>, the company is widely acknowledged as the first professional Georgian folk ballet ensemble. Over the course of eight decades, Sukhishvili has captivated millions of spectators on the most prestigious stages around the world, from the Metropolitan Opera in New York, to La Scala in Milan. International media have praised the troupe, with the New York Times<\/i> even referring to them as \u201cthe eighth wonder of the world\u201d.<\/p>\n
The 80th anniversary programme features a stunning array of virtuoso performances. The men\u2019s dances, full of acrobatics, leaps, synchronised turns and spins, create breathtaking displays of strength and precision. Meanwhile, the women\u2019s dances captivate audiences with grace, elegance, and refined technique. At the heart of the ensemble\u2019s identity is the unique Georgian male toe dance, which is a trademark movement of Sukhishvili and is unmatched by other troupes.<\/p>\n
