At the Kai Art Centre, the exhibition \u201cOn a Fragile Surface. Sirje Runge and Light\u201d brings together the work of painter and designer Sirje Runge<\/b>, spanning five decades of artistic exploration. The exhibition follows the artist\u2019s lifelong journey in studying light, colour and perception. The works on display include her early geometric experiments as well as later large-scale pieces. The exhibition is curated by M\u0117ta Valiu\u0161aityt\u0117<\/b>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn a Fragile Surface\u201d brings together, for the first time, works from Sirje Runge\u2019s series \u201cLandscape\u201d from 1981\u20131994, and \u201cLight\u201d from 1979\u20131995, along with visual reconstructions related to her teaching, and recollections from her students.<\/p>\n

Also shown for the first time is \u201cSuur armastus \/ Kaunis lagunemine\u201d, or \u201cGreat Love \/ Beautiful Decay\u201d in English, from 2003\u20132021, a video piece that captures\u2014in accelerated form\u2014the slow transformation of a ten-metre long silver fabric under the influence of nature.<\/p>\n

Guided tours of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, 30 October at 18:00 and Saturday, 8 November at 14:00, led by Elen Lotman<\/b>, and Laura Arum-L\u00e4\u00e4tse<\/b>, respectively. The tours will be conducted in Estonian.<\/p>\n

At present, Elen Lotman is working on a documentary film about Sirje Runge, portraying the artist\u2019s life and work in its most direct and honest form. Runge commented on the film project in the latest issue of Areen<\/i>:<\/p>\n

\u201cAlong with Elen Lotman, we are making a film about my death. It\u2019s a process whose end no one knows. You can\u2019t write a script about a person who is beginning to die.\u201d<\/p>\n

The exhibition is open from 11 October 2025 to 22 February 2026 and is part of the main programme of this year\u2019s Tallinn Photomonth.<\/p>\n
