They both originate from the Americas, they’re both frequently used together in cooking, and they’re both members of the nightshade family—like tobacco and potatoes. How are they different? One’s a fruit, and one’s a berry. Oh, and something about burning the inside of your mouth, but readers can probably figure out for themselves which one is guilty of that. But there’s one more thing they have in common.

The Tallinn Botanic Garden is hosting an event for slightly over a week this month where over a hundred varieties of chilli peppers and tomatoes will be on display. And not just display: visitors can sample them. This isn’t just an exhibit where you see these fruits and berries sitting on a shelf.

Visitors can attend workshops and lectures that deal with how to cultivate and care for chillies and tomatoes, as well as which varieties to choose for your garden or greenhouse. Tips on improving soil, how to properly incorporate fertiliser into your greenhouse, pest-control, and how to save seeds for next season are also covered in the lectures. The lectures are free with a general admission ticket to the Botanic Garden.

More information about the Chillies and Tomatoes event can be found here.

The Tallinn Botanic Garden was established in 1961, and has now developed into an incredibly diverse garden spanning over 22 hectares, and featuring more than 6500 exhibits.
