For 15 years running, the Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu has held an outdoor concert featuring their symphonic orchestra. This year again, it will be held in Kassitoome, a unique valley in Toomem\u00e4gi Park, the beautiful downtown park surrounding the medieval cathedral. The concert is free for all, but it is advised to arrive early to find a comfortable seat, or place to stand.<\/p>\n
Music composed by <\/b><\/span>Leonard Bernstein<\/b>, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart<\/b>, Max Bruch<\/b>, Bed\u0159ich Smetana<\/b>, Salvatore Cardillo<\/b>, Edward Elgar<\/b>, Giuseppe Verdi<\/b>, Georges Bizet<\/b>, David Popper<\/b>, Johannes Brahms<\/b>, Agust\u00edn Lara<\/b>, and Estonians Eino Tamberg<\/b> and Raimond Valgre<\/b> will be performed.<\/span><\/p>\n Soloists Riccardo della Sciucca<\/b>, Kadi J\u00fcrgens<\/b>, Brett Pruunsild<\/b>, Federico Mechelli Uhl<\/b>, Mari Ellen Lutsar<\/b>, and Helin Pihlap<\/b> will be featured, accompanied by the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra. conducted by Risto Joost<\/b>, and hosted by Veiko Porkanen<\/b>.<\/p>\n The Vanemuine Theatre is Estonia\u2019s oldest, founded in 1870. Toomem\u00e4gi Park is where Tartu itself finds its beginnings, with a fortification dating back to the 7th century. Later a bishop\u2019s castle and cathedral were built in the Middle Ages, which today exist as partially restored ruins, and a fully restored museum section.<\/p>\n Kassitoome Valley is the site of the first Song Festival, in 1869, and legend has it that the valley is in fact a quarry that was used to create the adjacent cathedral.<\/p>\n
