Best known for their \u201cshock music\u201d and art in protest of the Kremlin, Russian group Pussy Riot is recognised around the world for their message, and their antics. Fronted by Nadya Tolokonnikova<\/b>, who was imprisoned as a result of the group\u2019s performances, Pussy Riot will take the stage at this summer\u2019s Tallinn Colors \u201825 festival.<\/p>\n
Nadya is not the only member to have served time in Russia. Maria Alyokhina<\/b>, another core member of Pussy Riot, has been arrested at least three times. In 2022, it was announced that she would serve time in a penal colony instead of continuing house arrest. She then decided to flee Russia, disguised as a delivery driver.<\/p>\n
\u201cRiot Days\u201d is the feminist punk group\u2019s latest production, chronicling the reality of political persecution in Russia, resistance against Putin, and Maria\u2019s escape from the dictatorship. Pussy Riot\u2019s performance at Tallinn Colors will feature their latest, most up-to-date version of \u201cRiot Days\u201d.<\/p>\n
Pussy Riot can be easily recognised on stage for wearing their iconic masks, which mock both the Russian military\u2019s habit of hiding their soldiers\u2019 faces, and for symbolising the anonymity of the plight of women around the world. \u201cRiot Days\u201d has so far been performed over 400 times on three continents, helping to raise money for Ukrainian children\u2019s hospitals, and providing aid to political prisoners in Russia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must not forget that Russia is the only aggressor, and Ukraine is the one fighting for its sovereignty and freedom. Pussy Riot’s presence at Tallinn Colors is an important reminder,” said Roman Demchenko<\/b>, the festival\u2019s organiser and CEO of Paavli Kultuurivabriku, where the festival will be held.<\/p>\n
