The P\u00e4rnu Music Festival, which has been ranked among the best classical music festivals in Europe for two years in a row, returns in mid-summer with top soloists and a high-quality international concert programme. The festival will take place from July 16 to 25, in P\u00e4rnu.<\/p>\n
The programme will include the premieres of new works by Erkki-Sven T\u00fc\u00fcr<\/b>, Alisson Kruusmaa<\/b> and Elis Hallik<\/b>, as well as many works by the great composer Arvo P\u00e4rt<\/b> to celebrate his 90th birthday.<\/p>\n
The opening concert on July 16 will feature the J\u00e4rvi Academy Symphony Orchestra conducted by Neeme J\u00e4rvi<\/b>. The orchestra will perform P\u00e4rt’s Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten<\/i> and compositions by Mozart and Saint-Sa\u00ebns. Two days later, the charismatic Kristjan J\u00e4rvi<\/b> and the Nordic Pulse ensemble will draw inspiration from P\u00e4rt’s music in their concert P\u00e4rdi peeglis<\/i>.<\/p>\n
Paavo J\u00e4rvi<\/b> and the Estonian Festival Orchestra will take to the stage on four evenings (19, 20, 24 and 25 July). All concerts will feature works by P\u00e4rt, including Silhouette<\/i>, first performed by Paavo J\u00e4rvi and the Orchestre de Paris at the inaugural concert of the Paris Philharmonic in 2015. P\u00e4rt’s Credo<\/i>, which caused a stir in the Soviet Union in 1968 when Neeme J\u00e4rvi was conductor, will also be performed. In P\u00e4rnu, Credo <\/i>will be performed in a spectacular joint performance with the Estonian Festival Orchestra, the Estonian National Male Choir and the Ellerhein Girls’ Choir.<\/p>\n

This year’s programme includes the premiere of Erkki-Sven T\u00fc\u00fcr’s Desert Wind oboe concerto with internationally renowned oboist Kalev Kuljus<\/b> as soloist (July 19). The P\u00e4rnu stage will also feature the latest works by two female composers from P\u00e4rnu: Elis Hallik’s Oriri <\/i>(July 20) and Alisson Kruusmaa <\/b>Valse lente <\/i>(July 25).<\/p>\n
Violinists Hans Christian Aavik<\/b> and Marie Poll<\/b> will perform P\u00e4rt’s Tabula rasa<\/i> (July 20), and guest soloists Iveta Apkalna<\/b> (24 July) and Vilde Frang<\/b> (July 25) will perform <\/i>Poulenc’s Organ Concerto<\/i> and Beethoven’s Violin Concerto<\/i> with Paavo J\u00e4rvi and the Estonian Festival Orchestra. The festival will also feature the debut of young organist, Maria Lehtlaan<\/b>.<\/p>\n
