The initiative is aimed at ensuring flexible electricity production and strengthening energy security in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Vai\u010di\u016bnas stated that the project is still in its early stages, and while he did not provide further details, he suggested that the new plant would likely involve gas-fired generation. &#8220;Ideally, if we reach such an agreement with Latvia and Estonia, it could be a new power plant. With regional projects, we have a number of challenges in talking to regional partners. But if such a decision is taken, of course, such flexible generation is usually gas-fired generation, yet for the time being we are still in the initiation phase of this issue,&#8221; he told Lithuania&#8217;s public broadcaster LRT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Lithuanian government\u2019s programme includes plans to initiate discussions with other Baltic states about a joint auction to attract investment for the development of a modern, flexible power plant.
