Detroit\u2019s electronic music pioneer Jeff Mills<\/b>, French keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary<\/b> and Indian tabla player Prabhu Edouard<\/b> will perform at Salme Cultural Centre on November 30, presenting their live project Tomorrow Comes The Harvest<\/i>. The concert will merge jazz improvisation and techno, focusing on the musical connections between past influences and contemporary sounds. Special guests for the event include Estonian musician Maarja Nuut<\/b> and Swiss drummer Nicolas Stocker<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Jeff Mills, a key figure in Detroit\u2019s Underground Resistance collective, left the group in the early 90s to pursue a solo career. Mills has built his reputation by drawing inspiration from science fiction and Afrofuturism, working on projects such as soundtracks for A Trip to the Moon<\/i> and radio adaptations of The Outer Limits<\/i> in collaboration with NASA.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow Comes The Harvest<\/i> was initiated in 2016 with the late Tony Allen<\/b>, one of the founders of Afrobeat. The concept behind the project was to focus on spontaneous improvisation, with pre-planning, allowing the musicians to respond to each other\u2019s ideas in real time. Following Allen\u2019s death in 2020, Mills continued the project with tabla player Prabhu Edouard and keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary, who had been involved since the beginning. The result of this collaboration is the new live album Evolution<\/i>, released on Axis Records, which reflects the group\u2019s exploration of both jazz and techno through improvisation.<\/p>\n
The performance in Tallinn is part of the ongoing Tomorrow Comes The Harvest<\/i> European tour, which has included performances at venues such as London\u2019s Barbican Centre, Berlin\u2019s Theater des Westens, and Dublin\u2019s National Concert Hall. The concert in Tallinn will feature a combination of intricate rhythms, experimental sound, and improvisation, which offer a fresh approach to both jazz and electronic music.<\/p>\n
