The P\u00d6FF Black Nights Film Festival is set to host a one-day masterclass in film criticism, giving participants the chance to be a film critic for a day. Scheduled for November 10 at the Nordic Hotel Forum, the event will be conducted in English and led by Victor Fraga<\/b>, founder and editor of the independent online magazine Dirty Movies.<\/p>\n
This masterclass, titled “Film Review Masterclass: Step into the Shoes of a Film Critic for One Day with Victor Fraga,” seeks to provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of film criticism. Fraga emphasises the importance of writing reviews that are not only informative but also engaging and inspiring for readers. He believes that film criticism should be a creative endeavour, paralleling the creativity found in filmmaking itself.<\/p>\n
Fraga aims to achieve several objectives during the session. These include enhancing participants’ writing skills, demonstrating that non-native English speakers can produce original English-language reviews, fostering creativity in film criticism, and dispelling common myths associated with the profession. Each participant will also have the opportunity to write a short review of a film, which will be published on both P\u00d6FF’s and Dirty Movies\u2019 platforms, along with personalised feedback on their work.<\/p>\n
The masterclass is open to all film enthusiasts from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, regardless of age or prior experience in film reviewing. This includes professionals already working in the film industry, such as critics, distributors, and producers. The application deadline for the masterclass is October 15.<\/p>\n
