The 10th Open Farm Day will take place across Estonia this weekend (July 20 to 21). This popular family-friendly event invites visitors to explore hundreds of farms and agricultural enterprises nationwide, offering a unique opportunity to learn about food production, experience rural life, and enjoy a variety of activities for all ages.<\/p>\n
Last year’s event saw a record-breaking participation of 357 farms, attracting over 280,000 visitors. According to Regional Minister Madis Kallas<\/b>, \u201cSeeing firsthand the hard work and dedication of Estonian farmers is invaluable. We hope that next year, many more farms and agricultural businesses will join us to showcase their operations and products.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Open Farm Day welcomes both long-time participants and newcomers. In 2023, 21 farms participated for the ninth time, 38 farms for the eighth time, and 187 farms (22 percent of all participants) joined for more than half of the previous events. Additionally, 76 farms participated for the first time last year. Reve Lambur<\/b>, head of the Rural Network Service at the Rural Economy Knowledge Center, expressed optimism for a similarly diverse turnout in 2024.<\/p>\n
Visitors can expect a wide range of experiences, from large agricultural enterprises to smaller farms, featuring intriguing animals and plants, impressive agricultural machinery, authentic farm food, guided tours, workshops, and much more. Each farm offers its own unique program, highlighting its specialties.<\/p>\n
Open Farm Day provides a great opportunity to see how local food is produced, understand modern farming and agricultural practices, and appreciate the diversity of rural life. Whether it\u2019s petting a goat or sitting in a combine harvester, these experiences await you.<\/p>\n
Thanks to Elron\u2019s special map<\/span><\/a>, getting to Open Farm Day is easier than ever. The map features over 80 farms and agricultural businesses located within walking distance of railway stations. <\/p>\n Farms and agricultural enterprises can be found along all train routes, with some located right next to the station (such as the K\u00e4ru Museum<\/span><\/span><\/a>) about half within 3 km, and most within 6 km.
