“P\u00e4rnu Opera Days has become one of the most important events in the summer capital. It is a pleasure to host the Klaip\u0117da State Music Theatre, w<\/span>ho offers audiences both international and Lithuanian opera,” shared Marika P\u00e4rk<\/strong>, Director of P\u00e4rnu Concert Hall and Artistic Director of P\u00e4rnu Opera Days.<\/p>\n This summer, P\u00e4rnu Opera Days will feature \u201cThe Daughter of the Regiment<\/i>\u201d by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti<\/strong> and \u201cThe Bear<\/i>\u201d by Lithuanian composer Bronius Kutavi\u010dius<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n While Donizetti’s opera is well-known to opera audiences, \u201cThe Bear<\/i>\u201d may be a new experience. The opera is set in the remote regions of 19th-century Lithuania, where pagan beliefs still hold sway. The audience meets an eccentric family, including the young animist Count Mykolas and his mad mother. Unexpectedly, a bear appears, setting off a series of unprecedented events that delve into the darkest aspects of human nature.<\/p>\n Written in 2000, \u201cThe Bear<\/i>\u201d <\/span>is the third opera by Bronius Kutavi\u010dius and his first ‘grand opera’. It features numerous soloists, a full orchestra, a mixed choir, and ballet dancers.<\/span><\/p>\n
