The European premiere of \u201cTangent,\u201d the latest stage work by renowned Japanese media artist Shiro Takatani<\/strong>, will take place at Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu on June 4 and 5. This is Takatani\u2019s first new stage creation in eight years. <\/p>\n \u201cTangent\u201d celebrates the 40th anniversary of Dumb Type, the world-renowned multidisciplinary arts collective co-founded by Takatani in 1984. As his first solo performing arts work since \u201cST\/LL\u201d in 2015, \u201cTangent\u201d explores the liminal space where the extraordinary meets the ordinary, seamlessly blending contrasting elements. This serene and dramatic piece transcends the boundaries between visual and performing arts, exploring the interrelationship of art, science, and technology.<\/p>\n Takatani\u2019s innovative approach has earned him international acclaim. His works have been featured at prestigious venues, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Centre Pompidou, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2022, Dumb Type represented Japan at the Venice Biennale.<\/p>\n Following its world premiere at ROHM Theatre Kyoto in February 2024, \u201cTangent\u201d is set to be a highlight of Tartu\u2019s 2024 cultural programme.
