From now until July 5, it is possible to get to know the exciting world of peonies and enjoy the floral beauty of midsummer at Tallinn Botanic Garden. Nearly 300 species, varieties and hybrids of peonies will be on display.<\/p>\n

During the next two weeks, visitors are invited to take part in excursions and curator classes, attend workshops, listen to concerts or walk independently among the fragrant flower beds. The most beautiful peony variety at Tallinn Botanic Garden will be chosen by visitors.<\/p>\n

“It is definitely worth visiting the peony exposition of the Tallinn Botanic Garden several times because, during the flowering period, you can see different varieties, both the early and the late bloomers,” explained Anne Jaakson<\/strong>, the curator of the peonies exposition.<\/p>\n

In the curator’s class on June 28 and during the consultation day on July 1, Anne Jaakson will teach simple tricks to help you\u2019re your peonies grow well. “In this year’s high heat, the flowers dry up very quickly. If possible, I recommend watering the peonies from time to time. Even more important is watering in the second half of summer, when the preparation for next year begins,” added Jaakson.<\/p>\n

All workshops, curator classes, excursions and the July 1 concert are included in the regular entrance ticket to the botanic garden, except for Jaan T\u00e4tte’s<\/strong> concert on Thursday, June 29.<\/p>\n

The tradition of growing peonies as medicinal and beauty plants goes back several millennia in China, where these flowers symbolise royalty, wealth and beauty. The peony as an plant in Estonia was losing popularity at the beginning of this century, but now it has regained its glory, and varieties and hybrids with fascinating shapes and colours can be found in gardens all around the country.<\/p>\n

Tallinn Botanic Garden is open every day from 10 am to 7 pm, including June 23 and 24. Due to the construction works in the parking area, it is recommended to use public transport or a taxi to get to the botanic garden.<\/p>\n
