Three Estonian scientists have won the prestigious European Inventor of the Year award in the industry category. The researchers J<\/strong>aan Leis<\/strong>, Mati Arulepp<\/strong> and Anti Perkson<\/strong><\/span> have been recognised for their work on curved graphene, a suitable material for storing and releasing energy quickly. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Carbon-based materials such as graphene increase the reception, storage and output power and energy density of energy storage and delivery devices, known as supercapacitors. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The work on curved graphene by Estonian <\/span>researchers Jaan Leis, Mati Arulepp and Anti Perkson and the potential industrial applications of their invention led to them founding the company Skeleton Technologies in Estonia. Today, Skeleton Technologies has grown to over 250 employees and is regarded as Estonia\u2019s most likely next Unicorn company (a company with a valuation over $1 billion).<\/span><\/p>\n The European Inventor of the Year award in the industry category recognises outstanding inventors in the field of cost-effective technologies patented by European companies<\/span> <\/span>with more than 250 employees and an annual turnover of more than 50 million euros.<\/span><\/p>\n
