An exhibition entitled \u201cWith Dugout to UNESCO\u201d has opened at the P\u00e4rnu Museum of New Art (P\u00e4rnu Uue Kunsti Muuseum)<\/span><\/a>, featuring canoes carved from a single tree.<\/p>\n

There are still many nations in the world where people\u2019s only vehicle is a homemade canoe. In Europe, however, the skill of making such boats has almost disappeared.<\/p>\n

This February, on the first floor of the P\u00e4rnu Museum of New Art, you can see examples of canoes sculpted in Estonia and across Western Siberia, as well as single-tree boats made in Soomaa, Siberia, Hungary, the west coast of the United States and the Amazon.<\/p>\n

It is worth taking the time to visit the exhibition, as Maido Selgm\u00e4ki’s<\/strong> documentary \u201cBuilding and Using a Single Tree Soot in Soomaa\u201d and Mark Soosaar\u2019s<\/strong> films \u201cThe Dugout\u201d about sculptor Jaan Rahumaa<\/strong> and \u201cGrandma of Boats\u201d can also be watched at the exhibition.<\/p>\n

The exhibition is open until February 27.<\/p>\n
