Tuira Chamber Choir to perform at Niguliste Museum in Tallinn

The popular Tuira Chamber Choir from Finland will arrive in Tallinn for a concert on Sunday, October 20. The concert, titled The Fruit of Silence, will take place at the Niguliste Museum at 6 pm. The programme features calming and meditative works by composers including Jaakko Hulkkonen, Peteris Vasks, Arvo Pärt, Ola Gjeilo, and the choir’s artistic director, Satu Korpi. The repertoire reflects themes of silence, peace, and hope, with each piece creating its own unique moment.

The acoustic qualities of the Niguliste Church and Arvo Pärt’s music have been key sources of inspiration in curating this concert. “The venue was chosen based on the pieces being performed. The church’s acoustics, the simplicity of Arvo Pärt’s music, and the essence of minimalism have all inspired the concert’s arrangement. Each piece embodies a moment of silence, peace, and hope,” explains choir director Satu Korpi.

The choir’s director is also a distinguished composer in her own right, with her piece Sinä olet aamuni valo (You Are the Light of My Morning) being featured in the concert. “The composition originated entirely from the text. After reading the poem, the melody and harmonies immediately resonated with the text, and I wrote it down,” she states.

Founded in 1969 in Oulu, the Tuira Chamber Choir has a long history of performing both chamber music and large choral-orchestral works in collaboration with various ensembles, including the Oulu Symphony Orchestra.
