The finale of the Melchior the Apothecary trilogy will be released on April 14

The final part of the Melchior trilogy “Melchior the Apothecary. The Executioner’s Daughter” will be released next week. According to director Elmo Nüganen, this film is more tense and dramatic than the previous two parts.

“The final act of the trilogy is the longest and, by far, the most intense of all three films. This movie is probably my favourite. I wanted to put Melchior in borderline situations – for him to face difficult ethical choices. I wanted to see if he would get out of there alive, and honestly, I was very worried about him,” explained Nüganen.

The official premiere of the third part of the medieval criminal trilogy “Melchior the Apothecary. The Executioner’s Daughter” will take place on April 10 at the Apollo Solaris cinema.

The film will be released in all Estonian cinemas on April 14. Special screenings with introductions by the filmmakers will also take place on April 12 in Jõhvi, April 13 in Tartu, April 15 on Saaremaa, and on April 19 in Viljandi.

Nüganen emphasized that although together the films form an integral whole, each story can also be considered as a separate feature film.

The third film “Melchior the Apothecary. The Executioner’s Daughter” is the most intense and dramatic in the entire trilogy, with the film featuring elements of a psychological thriller. It is also the most emotional of the trilogy and full of unexpected twists.

Last year the first two Melchior movies attracted more viewers to Estonian cinemas than any other film. The first part was watched by about 130,000 people, and the second part by more than 86,000 people. In addition to Estonia, “Melchior the Apothecary” was shown in 10 countries around the world, and in 2023 it will be released in several more.

The ‘Melchior the Apothecary’ trilogy is based on the bestselling Melchior the Apothecary novels. In the scripts of the films, the screenwriters Indrek Hargla, Elmo Nüganen and Olle Mirme intertwined characters and events from the books with completely new and exciting twists created for the films.

The third and final part of the trilogy, “Melchior the Apothecary. The Executioner’s Daughter” will be released in cinemas all across Estonia on April 14.
