Quality of life in Estonia less affected by pandemic than other Baltic nations – a study shows

Compared to before the pandemic, satisfaction with quality of life has reduced the least in Estonia compared to the other Baltic states. According to a survey by EYE, satisfaction with quality of life in Estonia has fallen from 73 to 65 per cent. This is compared to Latvia which fell from 73 to 60 per cent, and Lithuania which fell from 71 to 61 per cent during the pandemic.

According to Siim Aben, head of Consulting Services at EYE, Estonia faired better than a number of western European countries, including Germany, which saw a reduction in satisfaction from 71 to 58 per cent, and France which saw a reduction from 65 to 53 per cent.

“Estonia’s eight percentage point decline is likely to be seen as a positive outcome, given the scale, duration and severity of the pandemic,” explained Aben.

The limited coronavirus restrictions and lockdowns compared to other European nations is seen as a major reason behind this positive outcome.

Estonians are also more positive about their futures and that of the region than the world as a whole. With 72 per cent of Estonians optimistic about the future for themselves and their families, 58 per cent about the region, and just 31 per cent about the future of the world as a whole.

22 countries took part in the survey, with 1000 participants taking part in each country on average.
