Popular Tallinn bar to close for good on January 1

In a sad announcement, Sveta Bar, a popular club and concert venue in Telliskivi, Tallinn, is set to close its doors on January 1, 2024. The venue, which began as a vintage shop and bar, evolved into an award-winning cultural hub and live music venue over the years, attracting both locals and tourists.

Reflecting on the closure, Luke Teetsov-Faulkner, one of the leaders of the bar, expressed gratitude. “Thank you to the visitors, staff and everyone who has been involved in one way or another. Unfortunately – to be frank and honest – we cannot continue in today’s economic and political situation and we simply cannot fight more. Sveta has definitely been more than just a bar. We are closing the doors now, but Sveta’s spirit will live on and who knows what the future will bring.”

He candidly cited the challenging economic and political landscape, which has been compounded by the COVID-19 crisis, energy price rises, the war in Ukraine, and gentrification. The closure, though specific to Sveta Bar, underscores broader challenges faced by event organisers and nightlife establishments.

He called for government support to recognise and enhance the cultural significance of nightlife as a potential economic driver and tourist attraction.

You can learn more about Sveta Bar’s final month of events before its closure on January 1, 2024 on their social media pages.
