New photography pop-up gallery opens in Tallinn

On November 1 at 7 pm, the Estonian Photographic Artists’ Union (FOKU), in collaboration with the Rüki Gallery, will open a pop-up gallery at Väike-Karja 10 in Tallinn’s Old Town. The opening exhibit showcases the works of three prominent Estonian artists, Cloe Jancis, Tanja Muravskaja, and Elo Vahtrik, each offering a unique exploration of identity, personal spaces, and self-care through photography. The exhibition will run until December 1, 2024.

Cloe Jancis explores themes of self-perception and self-presentation through her striking self-portraits. Drawing inspiration from psychoanalysis and media representations of femininity, Jancis’ recent works delve into beauty myths and rituals.

Tanja Muravskaja, known for her work in social critique, has shifted to immersive installations. On display will be works from her series Aiapagu, where she documents Elo and Friedebert Tuglas’ garden, symbolising the connection between beauty and nature against the backdrop of Soviet-era realities.

Elo Vahtrik addresses societal structures and power dynamics, often using irony and kitsch to engage with these themes in her works.

The gallery will host special events throughout the duration of the exhibition, including a guided tour by Tallinn Photomonth’s artistic director Kulla Laas on November 16 and a book launch by Tanja Muravskaja on November 28.

You can discover more about the exhibition and special events on the official FOKU website
