01 THE HARMONY OF MUSIC AND NATURE
5-11 June: “Kaunid konserdid Käsmus” will take place in the small fis- hing village of Käsmu. Many favourite Estonian artists will be taking to the seaside stage, including Lenna Kuurmaa (in the photo), Jaan Tätte and the 86 year old Kihnu Virve, along with Marko Matvere, Untsakad, and Kukerpillid.
02 GOOD READS
The annual HeadRead literary festival will take place 28 May – 1 June in Tallinn, where you can meet Riika Ala-Harja, John Banville, and Antony Beevore. From 7-10 May, the Prima Vista writers’ festival will take place in Tartu, and will include Mihhail Veller, Katja Patrowskaja, Klau-Peter Wolf, and Salla Simukka. In addition to the opportunity to meet these authors, there will also be a book market and music.
03 INDIE SOUNDS IN TARTU
The weeklong indie fest will take place 19-24 May, bringing new and interesting bands to Tartu’s clubs. The long list of performers includes the top Estonian band Elephants from Neptune, and rising star Frankie Animali.
04 RUNNING OR WALKING TOWARDS SUMMER
The all-female SEB Maijooks 7km run takes place May 17 at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds. The Tartu Bicycle Rally will take place June 1 with the option of two races: 113km and 70km. The race starts in Tartu’s city centre.
05 STREET THEATRE AND OTHER PERFORMANCES
Lai Street in Tallinn’s Old Town turns into a street theatre from 5-8 June (outside of the NUKU theatre) as part of the Treff Theatre Festival. The programme includes music, puppet theatre, and street performance.
