On February 22, young violin virtuosso Hans Christian Aavik and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will perform at Mustpeade Maja in Tallinn as part of the concert series “Aavik in Salzburg”. With this concert series, Hans Christian Aavik‘s long-standing dream of performing all of Mozart’s violin concertos works will come true. Aavik plays a Maggin violin, which dates from around 1610.

“The Tallinn Chamber Orchestra is absolutely the best ensemble to do this with. The immediate click with the orchestra inspired me so much that the idea of a joint concert series started from there,” says Aavik.

In addition to Mozart’s violin concertos, each concert in the “Aavik in Salzburg” series contains contemporary music that the violinist also wanted to share with audiences.

“On February 22 we will play Mozart’s 39th symphony, which has been one of my favorites for a very long time. As in the first concert of the series, this time too we will perform a piece of contemporary music by this year’s Grammy winner Jessie Montgomery. Montgomery’s “Strum” is rich in its new rhythms and harmonies,” adds Aavik.

Hans Christian Aavik, who is a winner of the prestigious Carl Nielsen international competition, plays a Giovanni Paolo Maggini violin, which dates from around 1610.

The Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, which was founded in 1993 under the leadership of Tõnu Kaljuste, is Estonia’s only permanent string orchestra. In 2014, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra was a collaborator on Arvo Pärt’s album “Adam’s Lament”, which brought the conductor Tõnu Kaljuste a Grammy.

Tickets for the concert on February 22 at Mustpeade Maja in Tallinn’s old town are still available at Piletilevi
