According to data released by Eesti Pank (the Bank of Estonia), foreign tourists spent 1.1 billion euros in Estonia in 2022. Although this was 670 million euros more than in 2021, it was still 340 million euros less than the record back in 2019.
A total of 3.5 million foreign tourists visited Estonia in 2022, which was 168 per cent more than in 2021. However, tourist numbers are still significantly down on pre-pandemic levels. For example, 2022 figures were 40 per cent lower than in 2019 (the record high), and were equivalent to visitor numbers back in 2005.
As a result, foreign tourists spent 670 million euros more in Estonia than in 2021. However, the 1.1 billion euros spent last year was still 340 million euros less than in 2019.
Estonian residents, on the other hand, spent around 1 billion euros during 2.7 million trips abroad in 2022. This was nearly 500 million euros more than in 2021, but 240 million euros less than in 2019.
