Flying to the European Capital of Culture 2024

Flying to the European Capital of Culture 2024

An air connection will be opened again between Tartu and Helsinki. ERR states that Finnair has signed a four-year contract with the city of Tartu, to offer 12 flights per week.

The flight connection between Tartu and Helsinki was stopped during the pandemic, however, it is set to return again early next year.

It was hoped that flights could begin in January. However, currently, it seems likely that flights will not begin until March. In total, there are expected to be 12 round-trip flights each week.

“Before the flights can start, we need to check that the amount of compensation requested by Finnair is in accordance with state aid rules and the conditions set by the European Commission,” explained Tartu Mayor Urmas Klaas.

The European Capital of Culture 2024 will have a diverse and lively cultural year ahead. The direct flight connection from Helsinki is therefore beneficial for both Tartu and travelers who want to get to southern Estonia easily and quickly.
