According to the Bank of Estonia, Finns accounted for 40% of foreign tourists in the second quarter. This is a 3%increase compared to last year. Over six months, Finns traveled to Estonia 813,000 times, of which 362,000 were day trips. A total of 450,000 stayed overnight for 1.1 million nights.
Statistics Estonia tracks overnight hotel stays. According to them, 300,000 Finns stayed in hotels during these six months, spending 554,000 nights there. This reveals the biggest recent change in Finnish trips: hotel stays average less than two nights, while stays elsewhere average nearly four.
Over the past three years, the number of Finnish multi-day trips in January–June has decreased by about 7000, but the number of nights stayed has increased by 168,000. Hotels have lost a significant portion of their market share to other types of accommodation providers.
