The Estonian Weather Service has announced a level one warning for blizzards, high winds and slippery conditions for today (Friday 28.01). A level one warning means “potentially dangerous” weather conditions.
Snow and sleet is expected to fall across Estonia today. This will be accompanied by high winds of up to 17-21 m/s on the islands and along the west coast, and 15 m/s on the mainland. The snow and high winds combining to form blizzards in some areas, reducing visibility and creating slippery conditions on the roads.
In addition, the air temperature is expected to fall below 0oC this afternoon, leading to freezing of standing water and melted snow, adding further to the slippery and dangerous road conditions.
