Akram Khan’s iconic performance “Chotto Desh” to be staged in Tallinn

One of the world’s most influential choreographers and a revolutionary figure in contemporary dance, Akram Khan, will bring his iconic ballet performance Chotto Desh to Tallinn’s Vene Teater on February 25 and 26, 2025.

Chotto Desh is a continuation of Khan’s celebrated solo performance DESH, which blends the memories and myths of the United Kingdom and Bangladesh. In 2012, Khan was awarded the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for this groundbreaking work.

Critics around the world have consistently praised this production. The Telegraph describes each scene as “magical and emotionally intense.” The Independent highlights Khan’s ability to create vast universes from a single image. The Wonderful World of Dance praised the performance’s visual effects, noting how they “hypnotically express the deepest emotions of the human soul.”

Chotto Desh” is more than just a dance performance; it is a poetic journey of self-discovery that resonates with both children and adults alike.

Khan’s collaboration with Timmy Yip, an Academy Award-winning visual artist renowned for his work on films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, alongside composer Jocelyn Pook and lighting designer Michael Hulls, has resulted in a stunning blend of stage design. The performance features mesmerizing visuals where urban landscapes and fairy-tale forests merge into one seamless narrative.
