A concert that will journey from the Middle Ages to the modern day

Long-established and highly regarded early music ensemble Hortus Musicus will perform a concert through the ages this Saturday, January 20. The concert, at the Lühike Jalg gate tower in Tallinn’s old town, will centre on pieces dedicated to the Virgin Mary from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Hortus Musicus perform a varied repertoire ranging from Gregorian chorales and medieval liturgical dramas, all the way to Renaissance dances, early sonatas, and modern contemporary pieces.

The ensemble, that was formed all the way back in 1972, have been performing regularly ever since. Making them one of the oldest continually operating bands in their field in the world. The group, which is led by the highly respected Andres Mustonen, are well-regarded internationally having performed all around the world, including at events such as the Lufthansa Baroque Festival in London and the Jaffa Festival in Israel.

This Saturday’s concert (January 20), will test all of this experience as they will play songs for the Virgin Mary all the way from the Middle Ages to the modern day.

The venue for the concert, the Lühike Jalg gate tower in Tallinn’s old town, was an important part of the medieval city. Being the gateway to the administrative upper town, which was not accessible to normal residents.

Tickets for the concert, which begins at 4 pm, are available at Piletilevi
